Members shall:

  • At all times protect and ensure the safety and happiness of animals in their care.  This includes protecting them against unauthorized capture, abuse or careless or reckless behaviour and ensuring they are not left unattended in public places or in situations where it is possible for animals to harm themselves or be harmed.
  • Undertake a thorough assessment of the animal’s needs and personality and with this knowledge, provide professional services and suitable environments tailored to best meet the needs of each individual animal.  Owners are to be alerted of any concerns regarding the animal’s health or behaviour and any injury sustained by an animal while in the care of a member.  Similarly, relevant authorities are to be alerted regarding any concerns regarding the owner’s contribution to or neglect of the animal’s well being. 
  • Display co-operation, courtesy and a professional manner to clients, the general public,   other park users and animal owners. 
  • At all times maintain visual contact and adequate (verbal & signal) control over any companion animals in their charge.  
  • When transporting companion animals, maintain appropriate ventilation, provide fresh water, protect against extremes of temperature and protect against unauthorized release of animals in their charge and provide all due care and consideration for the safety of the animals being transported. 
  • At all times maintain the security of all animals -  in and around the client’s property and any environment or property on which the animal is being held.   Premises, vehicles and equipment are to be kept clean & disinfected to prevent spread of illness. 
  • Where feasible, refer clients they are unable to service, to other accredited association members. 
  • Have respect for, client’s private and personal information and not to disclose this information without the client’s prior knowledge and consent. 
  • Operate their business with honesty & integrity and in a manner, which will not discredit the association or which will intentionally undermine the business or integrity of another member. 
  • Ensure that companion animals under their care shall at all times be provided with humane treatment in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations. 
  • Comply with the Vic Domestic (Feral and Nuisance) Animals Act 1994 and Local Authority Rules of the park, beach or reserve they are in.
  • Register with local authorities where required.
